Esfan is one of the lords who protest about their assignations in the Order of battle, asking to be put in the vanguard in order to distinguish on the battlefield. After the beginning of the campaign, when he was leading the vanguard of the Parsian Army, he clashes with Zaravant and it lead in attack of the two and Tus against a Lusitanian's position on the highway. However, this prove to be a trap and the Lords and their force were cut off from the rest of the army and pursuer by the Lusitanians into the nearby Mountain. As they were finally surrounded and prepare to fight to the death, they are rescued by the Parsian Army lead by Daryun and Kishward. The three apologize to Arslan in the aftermath of the Battle.
Esfan and Gieve have a hateful relationship; the former hated the latter for killing his brother and his nonchalant altitude. The relationship is so tense that the two engage in a sword fight the night before the start of the reconquering campaign.
